Complete Idiot's Guide Market Timing

Scott Barrie
Like most books in the "Complete Idiot's guide" series, this book is more for
beginners/intermediate Market Timers.
Now, don't get fooled by the name, the
book is actually quite good. It provides detailed description of almost every popular Market Timing system.
However, sometimes a strategy is backtested
over a too short period. For instance, the results using the VIX are given over
only 4 years so it is difficult to get an idea of how the system would perform over longer periods.
Then, the statistics are most often not presented in a classical format with
summary of Average or Annualized Returns and Standard Deviation. This may frustrates many.
The book attempts to provide rational explanations as to why the market behave
that way. This should give you confidence as to why you should use a particular
system. Now, in some occasions, various explanations are given but no timing
model presented: for instance in chapter 9 on the Business Cycle.
Some Off-topic subjects at the end of the book. The author talks about
Options, Managed Futures.
