The little book has gained significant attention since its release. It details an effective mechanical Growth At Reasonable Price stock picking strategy called "Magic Formula Investing".

James P. O’Shaughnessy


O'Shaughnessy explains that the determinants of a portfolio success are its main factors (Market Capitalization, Valuation, Growth, Relative Strength,...) rather than its specific stocks holding.

The book then shows how to analyze successful Guru’s Portfolio to extract their main factors so that you can build a stock screening that mimic their strategy.



Beating the DowBeating the Dow
Michael O'Higgins

This is the book highlighting the famous “Dogs of the Dow” mechanical strategy.

O’Higgins also provides what he called “Advanced Strategies”. Some strategies combine the Dogs of the Dow with Market Timing while others apply various Value Investing criteria to the Dow Stocks.

A very decent book on Stock Picking techniques and Market Timing from a famous investor.

Includes a very interesting chapter for mechanical investor: Larry Williams backtested various mechanical Value investing strategies and the best 6 months (November-April) timing system using stocks from the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA.

Investment MadnessInvestment Madness: How Psychology Affects Your Investing...And What To Do About It
John R. Nofsinger

The book provides a good description of the psychological biases that affect investors.

However, the proposed solutions are only trivial. Many will be disappointed at that point.

The table summary in chapter 15 is quite handy and the author suggests to review it annually: not a bad idea.
